When we are treating Arthritis in Older Dogs, there are a lot of things to consider. Have you noticed your dog Slowing Down? Do they not want to jump up after getting up after a nap? Has their gate changed to a limp?
Has you dog lost interest in the things he really seemed to enjoy? The First step is to call your Veterinarian and schedule an Appointment. This will provide you with the necessary information as to what, exactly, is going on with your Dog.
ASK A VET……
I recently took my 9 year old Mini- Aussie in for such a check up. She was having trouble getting out of her doggie bed after her naps. She also started showing a limp after running after squirrels in the yard.I half way expected to hear that she had Arthritis on her right side.
That prognosis was proven correct after X-rays confirmed such in her right rear hip joint and a bone spur on her right front elbow. To combat this disease, the Vet started her on a new Healthy Joint and Mobility Diet. She also prescribed Rimadyl and Gabapentin to relieve some of the joint discomfort.
ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS
These medicines are useful in people as well for the same treatments, only the contain smaller doses for your dog. We all like to give our dogs treats when they are around us, but that is not always best for them. They can get overweight and this causes more stress on their Joints. This can lead to an early bought with Arthritis.
